Maintaining and improving quality of life
The multimodal therapy concept for MS patients aims at providing supportive symptomatic therapy combined with treatment for acute attacks as well as immunomodulatory or immunosuppressive long-term treatment. Thus, quality of life of affected persons should be maintained or improved. In addition, MS patients should receive physiotherapy to help mitigate gait disabilities or disorders of coordination. Changes in the daily routine and lifestyle of affected persons are also part of a multimodal therapy approach.
The symptoms that most frequently impair a patient’s quality of life are spasticity, pain, bladder dysfunction, fatigue or ataxia (disturbed movement coordination).
