Data security via a common IT infrastructure

A common IT infrastructure is what makes the research network at all possible. Therefore, the KKNMS established a medical study data bank as well as a data bank for biosamples and MRT images. Meanwhile the data bank integrates eleven sub projects. It also documents all material removal from the bio bank as well as information on quality parameters. All projects follow the consistent Data Dictionary of the Competence Network Multiple Sclerosis. Thus comprehensive data analyses are easily possible. All identified patient data is kept in a central patient register which enables the identification of patients even if they have changed residence or their names. For the DECIMS project, also a Wiki was included. The project team also developed a comprehensive data protection and data security concept that facilitates the link between medical and biomaterial or imaging data.

The coordinator of the project is Gisela Antony (University of Marburg).
Karoline Buckow (University of Göttingen) will be co-coordinator.
